The Digital Accessibility Legal Landscape in U.S.

Apr 17 @ 19:00 - 20:30 JST
Details:

Digital accessibility is a civil right of disabled people, making the difference between inclusion and exclusion.

This talk will be a lightening overview of what's happening in the United States legal space: lawsuits, negotiations, state and federal laws, regulations, and government agency guidance. It will also touch on the growing global digital accessibility legal framework, how ethics fits in, and offer resources to help you stay current.

Lainey will talk a lot about the law, but please note that there will not be any legal advice in this talk.

Also Lainey will answer your questions as much as possible. Please submit your question in the registration form when you sign up at connpass.

This is a talk for everyone: whatever your role let's put the law in our pockets to help build an inclusive digital world.

Law Office of Lainey Feingold | Disability Rights Lawyer, Author

Lainey is a disability rights lawyer, public speaker, and author. For thirty years she has focused on technology and information access issues for blind people and others with disabilities. Lainey helped negotiate the first legal agreement in the United States (in 2000) about web accessibility. Instead of filing lawsuits, Lainey uses Structured Negotiation. It is a strategy that focuses on problem-solving and building relationships. With this method, she brings together disabled people, businesses and governments. Together, they work to make tech available to everyone.

Lainey is the author of Structured Negotiation, a Winning Alternative to Lawsuits, available in digital and print formats. First published in 2016, the second edition (available in English and Spanish), with new content including a foreword by Haben Girma, was published in October, 2021.
