Yuichiro Tamura has created works that start from existing images and objects, crossing a wide range of media, including photography, video, installation, performance, and stage art. Drawing inspiration from the specific historical themes of certain places and familiar, popular themes, he constructs multilayered narratives that blend reality and fiction. His work is characterized by the way it offers new interpretations of established history and memory, connecting them to the present.
In this exhibition, Tamura will debut a new work titled "ATM," inspired by the abbreviation ATM for "Art Tower Mito." Visitors will be guided into Tamura's artistic world through short stories created by a generative AI that has learned from the vast texts Tamura has written over time. Tamura, who has built narrative-driven works in the form of stories, tales, and episodes accompanied by narration or storytelling, says that the starting point of his work lies in the creation of texts. In his new work "ATM," he entrusts the act of text creation to generative AI, attempting to weave new narratives by tracing fragments of his past works.
