Job Description

The JP Cross-Channel, Cross-Category Marketing Team (XCM) seeks a skilled Art Director with extensive experience in advertising and branding. This individual creates and executes fully integrated visual ideas, bringing them to life across multiple channels, including TV commercials, social media, digital platforms, outdoor advertising (OOH), websites, banners, and owned media for our marketing campaigns.

The ideal candidate is a strong conceptual thinker and an adept problem solver, capable of independently developing on-brand creative concepts for application across various channels and platforms. In this role, the Art Director translates business strategy into effective creative solutions for some of our largest and most complex campaigns. They transform these concepts into practical final executions and deliverables, communicating clearly with customers while upholding the highest creative standards.


  • Execute hands-on and lead/direct both internal and external creative resources effectively to scale up the volume while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Manage personal workload and project queue, fulfilling multiple projects and tasks while meeting tight deadlines simultaneously.
  • Present ideas, visual concepts, and executions to senior leaders in the organization and cross-functional partners; incorporate feedback and requirements to reiterate and refine for ideal and aligned outcomes.
  • Understand deeply the assigned projects, staying connected with all aspects of the project lifecycle, including necessary information, requirements, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Stay current with global Amazon branding and style guides, as well as with industry trends and the competitive landscape.
  • Innovate proactively with 'think-big' ideas, influencing others beyond immediate responsibilities.
  • Develop cooperative working relationships with cross-functional partners, extending beyond the immediate team and organization.

A day in the life

As the Art Director, you will partner with our Group Creative Director to lead advertising campaigns and marketing activities. These creative tasks will include company-wide marketing initiatives for Amazon Retail (, Prime, and the Amazon corporate brand, as well as campaigns and branding for specific categories or services. You will be expected to direct creators both within and outside the company and to engage in hands-on work.


Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of art direction experience in an advertising agency/production company or in-house creative department.
  • 5+ years of experience in video, motion, and other interactive designs.
  • Excellence in creative principles including visual design, video, typography, composition, scale, color theory, and photography, with a good understanding of how these principles work together.
  • Experience in directing multiple creative resources across various functions, including art directors, video directors, visual designers, UX designers, copywriters, photographers, and stylists.
  • Ability to quickly turn around creative ideas and mockups in time-sensitive situations.
  • Bilingual in Japanese and English at a business level, including oral and written communication.
  • BA/BS degree in Design or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and other design software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in leading global or nationwide scale projects with complexity, scaling to deliver results with volume.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to clearly and persuasively communicate complex creative concepts.
  • Being a tenacious self-starter with a passion for effective communication.
  • Ability to think and act both strategically and tactically.
  • Possession of a positive, entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Capability to work on a diverse team or with a diverse range of coworkers.
  • Strong bias for action in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment.
  • Experience in branding.
  • Proficiency in video editing tools such as Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, and After Effects.
