Job Description

UX/Product Designers lead the design of our product, the Mercari marketplace app. They use their UX and UI expertise to help us maximize both user experience and business impact.

UX/Product Designers help us improve the UX and UI of both Mercari and Merpay, and define how we communicate with our users using methods such as notifications and promotions. Additionally, they are responsible for a wide variety of design-related tasks that go beyond the traditional concept of UX/product design: they plan and develop strategic initiatives across the entire company, revamp listing and buying experiences for different item categories, and act as creative directors for large-scale promotions. 


Responsibilities

  • Design the UI and UX of the Mercari marketplace app (designing listing and buying experiences, etc.)
  • Design the UI and UX for new services
  • Improve the UX/UI of existing products, work on growth hacking, and design marketing promotions
  • Communicate with product managers/engineers and be involved in the decision-making process
  • Lead projects (managing progress and resources, adjusting their scope)

Development Tools/Environment

  • Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Cloud, InVision, GitHub, Slack, etc. / Mac

Bold Challenges

In this position, you will have the opportunity to lead the design of the Mercari marketplace app, a product used by more than 17 million people every month. UX/Product Designers at Mercari not only design the visual components of the app, but also the entire user experience, so you can have a great impact on our business. In addition, this position will allow you to be involved in all aspects of our product’s design, including building the design system from scratch. You will be able to gain experience through work on a wide range of design-related tasks in different design environments, and not only improve your skills, but also boost your own career development.


Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Shared understanding and belief in our company’s mission and values
  • 3+ years experience designing UI and UX for apps or web
  • Experience using development tools such as Figma and InVision
  • Shared belief in Mercari's mission and values
  • Experience using the Mercari app to buy and sell items

Preferred Experience

  • Enthusiasm for creating a design organization
  • Experience managing projects
  • Experience designing B2C services with a large user base

Employment Status

Full-time

  • Probationary period: First 3 months after joining the company. (During this period your contract conditions will be the same as that of a permanent employee.)

Roppongi

  • Smoking is prohibited within our offices
  • Mercari has introduced a work style policy called “Your Choice.” Each member is free to choose whether they want to work in the office or work fully remote. *Exceptions made for certain kinds of work.

Work Hours

  • Full flextime (no core time)

  • Two days off per week (as well as national holidays, New Year's break, etc.)

Salary

  • Annual salary paid in 12 monthly installments (including fixed overtime allowance)
