The Consumer Products (CP) team aspires to connect members to our content by bringing their favorite stories to real life. With our products and campaigns, we strive to continuously entertain, delight and bring joy to our fans all over the world. As our business expands in the APAC region, we are seeking a creative professional who can help visualize our potential and unlock new opportunities. The successful candidate will have strong design skills as well as insights into industry trends and creative inspirations. The candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to work with both internal & external partners from a variety of different industries & backgrounds. This will be a one-year contract position based in our Tokyo Office. The role will report to the Product Development and Creative Manager in Korea.

Position Summary

The Designer works in conjunction with the Regional Design Manager to manage product developments and develop style guides and asset kits to support the Netflix Consumer Products business in the APAC region. The ideal candidate has strong design, illustration, and layout skills, along with experience within entertainment, consumer products, retail, or related industries. 


Responsibilities

  • Reviews and assists with new product and packaging design from licensees 
  • In-depth knowledge and familiarity with all active title style guides and art assets being used for product development concepts 
  • An eye for detail and discernment; able to recognize incorrect use of Netflix IP on concepts as per the style guide guidelines, required legal attribution on branding and packaging solutions
  • Ability to convey creative direction when needed to resolve a concept design issue
  • Time management skills in order to uphold contractual deadlines for approvals at all stages of development
  • Ability to produce creative mood boards and set creative vision based on Merchandise strategy per title
  • Presentation skills to communicate with internal and external partners
  • Develop creative to support CP style guides & asset kits
  • Design presentation materials for new creative business pitches
  • Creates multiple design solutions for a given brief; provides a design point of view and communicates it to key stakeholders
  • Assists the Design Manager in vetting and onboarding third-party creative vendors
  • Demonstrates strong leadership through self-managing projects and keeping the team informed
  • Communicates with and solicits feedback from internal stakeholders regularly
  • Prioritizes workflow effectively

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated 6+ years of design experience in the consumer products industry or at a creative agency - entertainment experience is a plus with an exceptional illustration, design, lettering, and branding portfolio 
  • Has exceptional “creative problem-solving”, initiative, and follow-through skills with the ability to think on your feet - exercise storytelling and joy through creative asset development
  • Must have a keen eye for trends & innovative design
  • Stays abreast of current design technologies, including software, hardware, and processes
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be fluent in English. Fluency in Japanese is also preferred.
  • Ability to manage stress and adversity in a positive, constructive manner during crisis situations and tight deadlines
  • Excellent multitasking skills with the ability to manage several projects at any one time
  • Regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability, and promptness are required
  • Advanced working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and the Google Workspace
