Job Description

On the Global Manufacturing and Supply (GMS) team at Takeda, you’ll be part of a rapidly transforming industry that’s applying technology and data in new ways. OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

Data scientists are on a mission to enhance performance through Advanced Data Analytics. The core purpose of this position is to drive the local execution and implementation of the GMSGQ Digital and Data science strategy and initiatives. The Data Scientist is responsible for executing local data analytics initiatives and provides the link between local and global GMSGQ data analytics.


Responsibilities

  • Gather, identify, and prioritize data analytics opportunities, initiatives, and requests in collaboration with stakeholders such as manufacturing/indirect/IT/engineering departments and the global GMS/GQ data analytics team.
  • Promote the creation and implementation of roadmaps for region/each manufacturing site in alignment with the GMS/GQ data/digital roadmap initiatives.
  • Implement data science technology and simulation models for the realization of predictive pharmaceutical manufacturing plants (realization of factory digital twins)
  • Develop solutions to improve production performance through advanced machine learning, statistical analysis, data mining, and data visualization technologies.
  • Promote local data analysis such as predictive maintenance, downtime analysis, and database management.
  • Maximize the use of Takeda's standard data collection systems and data analysis tools to monitor and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Propose opportunities of improvements to managements and business functions based on insights gained from data analytics.
  • Participate in global/functional/local communities and share information on activities in Japan.
  • Coaches and supports not only data scientists (relatively junior), machine learning engineers and data science specialists, but also people in production/manufacturing sciences to accelerate Digital Transformation with increasing knowledge and capability of data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Excellent skills, coaching skills, and experience in digital/data science.
  • Programming experience in Python, R, and SQL.
  • Business experience in using machine learning algorithms: multivariate analysis, decision tree-based methods, CNN, SVM, LSTM, etc. (Hybrid model development experience with simulation models based on first principles is desirable).
  • Specialized knowledge in signal processing, control systems, mechatronics, etc.
  • Bottleneck analysis of end-to-end supply chain data.
  • Experience in developing predictive simulation models in specific fields.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (experience in quality mapping of parameters is desirable).
  • Specialized knowledge of Bayesian statistics.

DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

Excellent organizational and coaching skills and experience in Digital / Data Science / Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning:

  • Expertise in Signal Processing, Control Systems, Mechatronics
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control
  • Experience in Machine Learning algorithms (CNN, SVM, LSTM, etc.)
  • Respective programming knowledge of either MATLAB/Python/R required, further skills such as C++, SQL etc. are advantageous
  • Experience in quality mapping of parameters is a plus

Expertise in Bayesian statistics:

  • Experience in Density estimation
  • Knowledge in Bayesian Hypothesis Testing
  • Knowledge in ANOVA and forecasting techniques (ARIMA, ARMA, NARX)
  • Prior experience of Biostatistics, stochastic modelling and decision trees is a strong asset

  • Mine and analyze data from site databases to drive optimization and improvement of quality, productivity and business strategies

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Education / Experience

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in a science or business-related domain is required, e.g. in Engineering, Mathematics, IT or Physics background with focus on e.g. Control Theory/Statistics/Mechatronics, Information/Operation, Technology, Innovation Management is preferred.
  • Ability to possess both hard skills (such as Python and SQL) and soft skills (such as business and communication skills).
  • Capabilities to translate business needs into data analytics concepts and vice versa.
  • Ability to promote projects and implement solutions while involving appropriate stakeholders.
  • High level project management skills
  • Ability to interface with international stakeholders and to connect internal and external data analytics experts of both academia and industries.
  • Fluent business English capability
  • Fluent written and spoken Japanese is mandatory (N2 or higher).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Domestic business trips (mainly to manufacturing sites) and/or overseas business trips would be required depending on the assigned project.
